14. Communities, Families and Schooling in Educational Research
Meetings/ Events/ Ceremonies Research Highlights from Network 14 Scholars: A Collection of Featured Publications 1: University of St Andrews, United Kingdom; 2: Loughborough University, United Kingdom; 3: J.E. Purkyně University, Czech Republic (Czechia) Presenting Author:This special session is dedicated to two major publications by international scholars well known to participants of recent Emerging Researchers Conferences (ERCs) and European Conferences on Educational Research (ECERs): the recently published Handbook on Geographies of Education (Elgar Handbook in Education) and the forthcoming Bloomsbury Handbook of Communities, Families and Organisations in Educational Research (2027). Both Handbooks bring together contributions that are central to EERA Network 14, including research on schooling in rural and urban settings, place-based and place-conscious education, school related transitions within a life course perspective, as well as family education and parenting. Many of the contributing authors are current or former Network 14 convenors or reviewers and have presented their work at recent ERCs and ECERs, including ERC/ECER 2026. Silvie Rita Kučerová, a long-standing Network 14 convenor, Peter Kraft, one of the keynote speakers at ECER 2026, and Laurence Lasselle, Link-convenor of Network 14 will provide an overview of both Handbooks. The session will begin with a presentation of the Handbook on Geographies of Education by Peter Kraft and Silvie Rita Kučerová, who are co-editors of this authoritative and widely acclaimed volume. Their presentation will highlight how the Handbook explores the geographical dimensions of education, offering insights into the dynamic interactions between spatial processes and education. In the second part of the session, Laurence Lasselle, the lead editor of the forthcoming Bloomsbury Handbook of Communities, Families and Organisations in Educational Research will introduce this new volume. Originating from the celebration of EERA Network 14 in 2025, this Handbook explores how various contexts – social, cultural, geographical – both shape and are influenced by the dynamic relationships between communities, families and organisations. It examines the complexities and nuances of these relationships and their impact on educational development. | ||
