Paper Creating Meaningful Participation: Developing Inclusive Pedagogical Resources for Children with Visual Impairment in Primary PE Dublin City University, Ireland Presenting Author:There is a perceived misconception that children who are visually impaired (VI) are unable to reach the same level of physical activity (PA) as their sighted peers (Alfrey & Jeanes, 2023). Significantly, children who are VI have the potential to achieve at the same level in the same activities as their sighted peers but only when they are provided with equal opportunities (Lieberman et al., 2019). When provided with these opportunities, the fitness levels of those who are VI who engage in regular PA are comparable to sighted individuals (Stuart et al., 2006). It is also indicated in the literature that mainstream class teachers need considerable support to include children who are VI in Physical Education (PE) lessons (Grenier et al., 2023). This paper therefore aligns with the theme of the European Conference on Educational Research (ECER), Knowing and Acting, acknowledging the opportunities, challenges and dilemmas presented in relation to supporting the inclusion of children with a VI in Primary PE lessons. It also addresses the need to develop practical supports that can be used by mainstream class teachers to enhance inclusive PE practices within the mainstream school setting. The objective of this study is to design inclusive pedagogical supports which teachers have identified they require to support the inclusion of children who are VI in PE lessons. This research paper is underpinned by the following research questions: A pragmatic approach will inform the methodology in this research study. Pragmatism focuses on addressing the research questions (Biesta & Burbules, 2003; Clarke & Visser, 2019). Guided by a pragmatic paradigm, the researcher will adopt a sequential design for the study. Methodology, Methods, Research Instruments or Sources Used Research during phase one working with primary school teachers, sought to identify the supports which teachers felt would support them to enhance their inclusion of children who are VI in PE lessons. The paper utilises a qualitative approach with four phases of data collection in total. The researcher will obtain rich data from multiple sources including: mainstream class teachers, Special Education Teachers (SETs), Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), children and parents of children who are VI. This data will be gathered to understand the lived experiences of children who are VI, and teachers’ and SNA’s knowledge and understanding of supporting the inclusion of children who are VI in PE lessons. Phase two of the research study will involve the observation of PE lessons in participating schools taught by the class teacher to include the child with VI. Field notes gathered during this phase focusing on participation levels and inclusion of the child with VI in the PE lesson will inform the creation of researcher-designed supports. Phase three will involve facilitating two focus groups with six children from each participating school to include the child with VI. These focus groups will be conducted to ascertain the children’s understanding of inclusion of all members of their class in the lesson activities with the implementation of the new supports. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with the class teacher following the PE lesson observations as part of phase four of the research study. SETs and SNAs will also be invited to partake in an interview following the lesson observations. Interviews will also be conducted with parents of children who are VI in the participating classes to discuss their understanding of their child’s participation and inclusion in mainstream PE lessons. The final phase of this research study will involve the creation of a Professional Learning Community (PLC), inviting all participating school professionals (class teacher, SET, and SNA) to partake. Participants will be asked to share their experiences of including children with a VI in PE lessons with others present and to discuss the effectiveness of and implementation of the researcher-designed supports. Using the data obtained during the data collection phase, supports will be developed for mainstream class teachers to use during their PE lessons in school. Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings Findings from phase one of this study indicated that teachers would benefit from the following: 1. Video supports showing how activities in the PE lesson could be adapted 2. Additional equipment including specialised PE equipment for children who are VI 3. Glance cards with guidance on relevant specialist equipment and suitable strategies 4. CPD for teachers related to the inclusion of children who are VI 5. Additional support for school professionals (SNAs present during the PE lesson) 6. Additional support from external professionals, including the visiting teacher service and those with specific experience of teaching PE to children who are VI Findings from the data collected during phase two-four (February 26 – June 26) will inform the researcher-designed supports for teachers throughout the design phase. These inclusive pedagogical resources will be developed in the three following areas: 1. An inclusive whole-school approach to teaching PE 2. Development of teaching resources 3. Development of Professional Learning/CPD supports The final phase of the study will provide perspectives of teachers and children on the researcher-designed support. The supports can then be adopted by teachers in Ireland, Europe and beyond, wherever children with VI are learning PE in primary school. This research study has the potential to provide children who are VI with the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning experiences within the PE setting. When provided with equal opportunities, children who are VI have the potential to achieve at the same level in the same PE activities as their sighted peers (Lieberman et al., 2019) . This would, in turn, ensure that children who are VI do not feel excluded, isolated or marginalised during PE, which is often reported in the literature (Ball et al., 2021; Haegele & Zhu, 2017; Marron et al., 2013). Paper Who Needs Special Support? Examining the Subject Positions Constructed for Student in Municipal Officials`accounts on Transfers to Special Support 1: Tampere University, Finland; 2: Tampere University; 3: Tampere University, Helsinki University; 4: Tampere University, Helsinki University Presenting Author:Previous research shows that a student’s special needs are structured and understood in different ways. For example, early childhood education pedagogical documents seem to contain varying structures of a child’s special needs (Heiskanen, Alasuutari & Vehkakoski 2018). As a result of the descriptions in the documents, different subject positions are constructed for the child, in which the dominant position is to see the child as problematic and permanently in need of support (ibid; Andreasson & Asplund 2013; Smith 2012.) Isaksson, Lindqvist and Bergström (2010) showed that principals define the student's special support needs using three models: the pedagogical model, the medical model and the social model. Andreasson and Carlsson (2013) in turn suggested that in the personal learning organization plan, the student in need of support is described through deficiencies and characteristics, different from the ideal student in school discourse. According to Vehmaa (2010), defining special needs through pedagogical documents is controversial, as it is based too much on the subjective assessments of professionals about what is good and desired behavior. The practice categorizes children as “ordinary” and “special”. Ultimately, it is also about the power that teaching professionals use when defining a student’s special needs (Ainsworth & Hardy 2004). According to Finnish Basic Education Act (628/1998,7.4.1) the basis for special support is the inadequacy of group-specific forms of support for the student's learning and school attendance. The student's absences, lack of motivation, early stage of the language of instruction or behavioral challenges cannot be grounds for transferring to special support. It is therefore important to also examine the accounts of basic education officials on the grounds on which special support is provided in municipal basic education. With this discursive research, we aim to increase understanding of the constructions of ‘special needs’ultural factors that structure and guide a student’s transition to special support, as well as the subject positions constructed for the student in the accounts. The study draws from socio-constructivist approach: Speech acts of the interviewees are not only representations of the culture of support, but they also contribute to constructing that culture. (Gee 2011; Gergen 2015.) The research aims to answer the following questions: 1. What kind of interpretive repertoires are used for justifying the need for special support? 2. What kind of subject positions are constructed for the student in these interpretive repertoires?
Methodology, Methods, Research Instruments or Sources Used The data consists of interviews with officials responsible for learning and school attendance in 13 municipalities in Finland. The central concept of the analysis is interpretive repertoire, which according to Fairclough's (2003) definition is the perspective from which the world is described. In the first phase of analysis, the study identifies accounts in which the interviewees refer to the student's special support needs. Next, the key themes are identified and the accounts will be grouped into interpretive repertoires. (Fairclough 2003.) Rhetorical analysis is used for interpreting the repertoires. More specifically, the study examines how the interviewees use different rhetorical devices to support their claims (Heracleous 2004). In the interpretive phase, the legitimation of the arguments presented in the accounts is examined. The study pays special attention to speeches that are reinforced by references to morality, rationality, authority, and the naturalness or inevitability of events, the speaker or the presented argument, contrast pairs, and repetition (Reyes 2011). The interpretation is guided by the following auxiliary questions: How are the arguments constructed in the speech to be convincing? Who are the actors in the speech? What possible rights and obligations are related to the student's subject positions? Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings Previous research shows that as a result we will identify varying constructions of ‘special needs’. The discursive frameworks that already influence the definition of special support needs in early childhood education and thus the subject positions that are constructed for the child (Pihlaja, Sarlin & Ristkari 2015) are also culturally present in basic education (e.g. Hjörne & Säljö 2004). However, it is important to examine the material openly and highlight any opposing voices. This helps us to better understand the cultural conventions involved in defining special support. Paper STEM, STEAM, and Developmental Domains in Early Childhood: A Systematic Review Middle East Technical University, Turkey (Türkiye) Presenting Author:Early childhood education (ECE) is grounded in a pedagogical understanding that views learning as a transaction (Dewey & Bentley, 1991) between children and the world through their bodies, language, emotions, and social relationships, rather than as a linear transfer of information. From this perspective, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) moves away from understanding developmental domains as separate categories of achievement, and conceptualises them as dynamic, interrelated dimensions that emerge simultaneously within learning processes (NAEYC, 2021). Therefore, in early childhood (EC), holistic development refers to the interplay of developmental domains within the learning context, rather than to their simple accumulation. STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) education is deeply rooted in Eurocentric knowledge systems (Kopparla et al., 2022) and defined as an educational approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) disciplines, addressing learning in interdisciplinary contexts (Bybee, 2010). Due to its interdisciplinary nature, STEAM education is associated with contemporary learning theories that view learning as a contextual (Liu & Wu, 2025), process-oriented (Yang, et al., 2025), and problem-based activity (Akcay Malcok & Ceylan, 2022). The integration of STEAM disciplines emphasises learning experiences in which different forms of knowledge are co-constructed (Hachey et al., 2022), rather than acquired within isolated fields. In ECE context, STEAM education and its increasing visibility is often grounded in theoretical assumptions in the literature with reference to contribute multiple developmental domains, including language (Aktulun et al., 2024), cognitive (Başaran & Bay, 2023), and socio-emotional development (NAEYC, 2021), as well as related competencies such as communication skills (Nikolopoulou, 2023), creativity (Erol et al., 2023), problem-solving (Akcay Malcok & Ceylan, 2022), and critical thinking (Rosyida et al., 2025). It is methodologically expected and legitimate for individual experimental studies to focus on a specific developmental domain. However, this focus can obscure the extent to which the widespread claim that STEAM can contribute to multiple developmental domains is reflected in research practices across the field. This systematic review takes as its starting point the assumption that STEAM education in EC is theoretically justified with reference to multiple developmental domains and aims to examine how this assumption is concretised in the empirical literature. Specifically, this review aims to examine which developmental domains (e.g., cognitive, language, and socio-emotional) are most frequently investigated in the literature and which domains are comparatively underrepresented. In this respect, the following research questions are posed: (1) What are the general characteristics of the reviewed studies in terms of year of publication, country of origin, and research design, and how have these characteristics evolved over time? and (2) To what extent do experimental STEAM studies in ECE address multiple developmental domains? Methodology, Methods, Research Instruments or Sources Used Following the established method for a systematic review developed by Booth, Sutton, and Papaioannou (2016), I applied a four-step procedure to review the current research. First, I established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Second, I identified relevant studies using the PRISMA guidelines (Page et al., 2021). In the third step, the identified studies were coded, and in the fourth step, they were evaluated (Booth et al., 2016). The Scopus database was chosen for the initial data search due to its interdisciplinary coverage (Mongeon & Paul-Hus, 2016). While conducting the study search, the terms “early childhood,” “kindergarten,” “pre-school,” “STEM,” and “STEAM” were used in various combinations. The initial search for journal papers yielded a total of 672 results. Subsequently, the studies were further screened based on the following criteria: publication between 2014 and 2024 and indexing in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), resulting in 258 studies. As some studies focused on cells within medical fields, subject areas such as Neuroscience, Biochemistry, and Toxicology were excluded, and I acquired a total of 162 studies. To select experimental studies, the remaining 162 studies were further screened by reading their abstracts. While the review of these abstracts, I maintained the following inclusion criteria: (1) the study must specifically address young children and EC, encompassing ages from birth to eight; (2) the study must discuss a STEAM education curriculum, programme, or experience; and (3) the study must be designed as experimental research. Consequently, a grand total of 27 papers were acquired and retained for the present review. After the final sample was obtained, I also reviewed the full-text and read the procedure sections to enhance my comprehension of the applied STEAM activities and to enhance the validity of the coding process. For determining which developmental domain the studies primarily focused on, the thematic analysing process was performed on the studies (Yin, 2015). Research questions, aims, and/or objectives were systematically identified for each individual study. These were then coded to determine which developmental domain(s) each STEAM study focused on within the ECE context. The NAEYC (2021) guideline was followed to establish rules and profiles for each thematic category. This was done to guide the coding process and ensure that each study could be linked to one or more developmental domains. Inter-coder reliability was established through independent coding by an ECE expert, with agreement calculated using Miles and Huberman’s (1994) formula, yielding a reliability coefficient of 93%. Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings The results indicate that most of the included studies were published between 2021 and 2023, with a marked increase in 2022 (n=6). From a methodological perspective, the vast majority of the studies reviewed employed quantitative research designs (n=21), whereas qualitative (n=3) and mixed-methods designs (n=3) were comparatively underrepresented in recent years. An examination of developmental domains indicates that the majority of studies focus on the effects of STEAM education on children’s cognitive development (n=16). Social-emotional development is addressed in a more limited number of studies (n=4), while language development was examined in only one study. No studies directly addressing physical development were found. However, two studies showed that STEAM activities can support all developmental areas holistically. In conclusion, the results of this review suggest that experimental STEAM studies in ECE engage with multiple developmental domains only to a limited extent, with research largely concentrated in specific developmental areas and notable gaps in physical and language development. Future studies are recommended to systematically examine the effects of STEAM activities across different developmental domains in EC. The adoption of experimental research designs that simultaneously address multiple developmental domains may strengthen the empirical basis of conceptual assumptions in the literature. Paper Educational Processes of Students with Mild Autism Spectrum Disorder:A Qualitative Case Study Based on Family and Teacher Perspectives Middle East Technical University, Turkey (Türkiye) Presenting Author:Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent difficulties in communication, social interaction, and patterns of restricted or repetitive behaviors (American Psychiatric Association, 2022). Students with mild ASD who are educated in special education classrooms require individualized and context-sensitive educational practices, as effective family–teacher collaboration is essential for supporting their academic, social, and emotional development. The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore the educational processes of two primary school students diagnosed with mild ASD who are enrolled in a special education classroom in a public school. The study focuses on how these processes are experienced and interpreted by parents and teachers, with the aim of providing a holistic understanding of students’ learning environments. The study explores these processes through the experiences, observations, and expectations of the students’ parents (two mothers and two fathers) and their teachers. By adopting a qualitative case study design, the research aims to provide a holistic understanding of how educational practices are experienced and interpreted by key stakeholders involved in students’ daily learning environments. This study is grounded in Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological systems theory, which conceptualizes child development as the result of continuous interactions between individuals and multiple, nested environmental systems (Bronfenbrenner, 1979). From this perspective, the educational experiences of students with ASD cannot be understood solely through individual characteristics; rather, they are shaped by interactions occurring within and across family, school, and broader institutional contexts. Within this framework, the microsystem includes the immediate environments in which students with mild ASD actively participate, particularly the special education classroom and the family. Teacher–student interactions, instructional practices, and emotional support provided in the classroom play a central role in students’ academic and social development. The mesosystem refers to interactions between these settings, most notably family–teacher collaboration, which is considered a critical factor in the effective implementation of individualized educational practices and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The exosystem encompasses contextual factors that indirectly influence students’ educational experiences, such as school management practices, availability of guidance services, and institutional support structures. At the macrosystem level, national policies, cultural perceptions of disability, and societal attitudes toward inclusion shape how special education services are designed and implemented. Finally, the chronosystem highlights developmental changes over time, including the timing of diagnosis, transitions within primary education, and evolving family and school expectations. To further strengthen the mesosystem dimension of the study, the research also draws on family–school partnership perspectives, which emphasize shared responsibility, mutual trust, and collaborative decision-making between families and educators. This complementary lens supports a holistic understanding of how parents’ and teachers’ experiences intersect in shaping the educational processes of students with mild ASD in special education classrooms. Significance of the Study Educational experiences of individuals with ASD should be addressed through a multidimensional framework that integrates individual needs with environmental and contextual factors (Tekin-İftar & Kırcaali-İftar, 2020). While existing research has documented effective instructional strategies for students with ASD, studies offering in-depth, case-based analyses that simultaneously incorporate family and teacher perspectives remain limited, particularly within special education classrooms. By focusing on two students with mild ASD, this study aims to capture both shared patterns and individual differences in educational experiences. Data derived from parents’ and teachers’ observations are expected to reveal strengths and limitations of current educational practices and contribute to the development of more effective IEPs for students with similar profiles (Kasari & Smith, 2016). Additionally, the study emphasizes the importance of family-teacher collaboration and seeks to offer practical insights for educators, school counselors, and special education professionals (Karal & Alev, 2021; Yıldırım & Şimşek, 2021). Methodology, Methods, Research Instruments or Sources Used Research Design and Methodology This study employs a qualitative case study design, allowing for an in-depth and holistic investigation of educational processes within a real-life context. The cases consist of two students diagnosed with mild ASD, their parents, and the teachers involved in their education. Data triangulation will be used to enhance credibility through the integration of multiple qualitative data sources. Ethical approval and informed parental consent will be obtained before data collection. Participants Participants consisted of two students with mild ASD, four parents (two mothers and two fathers), and two special education teachers. Participation will be voluntary, and all ethical principles related to confidentiality and informed consent will be strictly followed. Data Collection Instruments and Procedures Data were collected over a four- to six-week period through semi-structured interviews with parents and teachers, direct classroom observations, and document analysis, including IEPs and assessment reports. Systematic classroom and school observations will focus on students’ interaction patterns, attention span, responses to instructions, social engagement, repetitive behaviors, academic participation, and emotional reactions. Observations will be documented through detailed field notes without audio or video recording. Data triangulation was employed to enhance credibility, and all ethical principles, including informed consent and confidentiality, were strictly followed. Relevant educational documents, including psychological assessment reports, IEPs, academic records, and official teacher evaluations, will be analyzed to support and contextualize the qualitative data. Data Analysis Qualitative data will be analyzed using thematic analysis, allowing for the identification of converging and diverging themes across family and teacher perspectives.. Interview transcripts, observation notes, and documents will be coded in relation to the research questions. Data triangulation will be applied by comparing findings across parents, teachers, observations, and documents to identify converging and diverging patterns. Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings Expected Findings Expected findings include similarities and differences in students’ educational experiences, parents’ expectations and perceptions of progress, teachers’ instructional strategies and challenges, and the role of family–teacher collaboration in supporting academic, social, and emotional development. Paper ***WITHDRAWN*** Between Language Support and SEN: An Intersectional Action Research on Language Education in Italian Primary Schools University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy Presenting Author:In the context of Italian primary schools, characterized by increasing linguistic and social complexity (Hannerz, 1992), educational inequalities and fragilities are intertwined with diversity management policies and cultural representations. In this scenario, the inclusion of pupils at the intersection of ‘migrant background’ and ‘disability’ requires educational models capable of recognizing the complexity of identities (Zoletto, 2023) and combating interconnected forms of discrimination. Despite the existence of a formal regulatory framework for inclusion, significant disparities remain between inclusive policies and practices, resulting in processes of marginalization (Migliarini et al., 2020; Migliarini & Elder, 2023). This section starts from this gap and considers language education as a privileged observatory: language is both an object of teaching and a condition for access to participation and social inclusion (Cummins, 1979; De Mauro, 2018). The reference framework is the intersectional one (Crenshaw, 1991) of Disability Critical Race Theory (DisCrit), which highlights the interdependence between racism and ableism underlying labels and categorizations that cause marginalization and recognizes the multiple identities of students (Annamma et al., 2018). Alongside this, the Critical Disability Raciolinguistic Perspective highlights the role of language in the processes of exclusion, racialization, and pathologization of those who speak a language other than the dominant one (Flores & Rosa, 2015). These dynamics fuel the dichotomy between “disability” and “language acquisition” (Przymus & Alvarado, 2019), reinforcing institutional procedures that are riddled with racial bias (Barrio et al., 2023). The management of diversity organized in parallel channels in Italian schools and the related barriers to the inclusion (see Caldin & Cinotti, 2018) are critically examined through this framework. While international literature on the intersection of factors such as migration background, language, and disability highlights positive examples of linguistic inclusion, in which linguistic repertoires are valued as an enabling condition for participation and belonging (Baker et al., 2021; Vender et al., 2021), a dominant theme is systemic inequalities. This is due to processes of over/under-identification, medicalization, and categorization (e.g., Grzymała-Moszczyńska et al., 2019; Migliarini et al., 2020). In addition, evaluative and diagnostic barriers emerge (monolingual tools, reporting bias, confusion between language acquisition trajectories and disability), which can contribute to forms of segregation (e.g. Baker et al., 2021; Hertel et al., 2021). These dynamics lead to fragmentation in the management of inclusion: on the one hand, language support interventions and, on the other, procedures and resources for disability/SEN, often organized in channels that struggle to communicate with each other and end up compartmentalizing students, channeling them into parallel paths (Stinson et al., 2025). In this configuration, bi- and pluri-lingual students labeled as disabled risk ‘falling’ between the two systems: language acquisition can become an all-encompassing explanation that renders barriers and functioning invisible, while disability can be used to stabilize or pathologize multilingual repertoires (Cioè-Peña, 2021). This project considers language education as a hub where such fragmentation occurs and can be made visible and transformable, adopting an intersectional and critical approach. In particular, the project aims to investigate how language education practices aimed at bilingual (or plurilingual) students labeled as disabled in primary school are constructed and implemented and how they affect participation and inclusion. The study aims to highlight the concepts of language, learning, and difference that guide everyday choices, and to understand how these interact with formal categorization and assessment mechanisms. The research also aims to identify how to make visible and problematize the (often naturalized) assumptions that guide these practices, opening up spaces for renegotiation and transformation through a process of action research from a DisCrit and raciolinguistic perspective.
Methodology, Methods, Research Instruments or Sources Used The project adopts a transformative qualitative approach (Creswell & Creswell, 2017) and action research understood as a form of social research conducted with the people involved, not on them (Lewin, 1947), aimed at understanding a concrete educational situation and improving it through a reflective and participatory process (Kemmis and McTaggart, 1988). The empirical phase takes place in a primary school in north-eastern Italy with high social and linguistic complexity and involves teachers, pupils and families from four classes as co-researchers. The researcher's position as a ‘friendly outsider’ supports the co-production of situated interpretations and the dialogic verification of analyses (Greenwood & Levin, 2006), making explicit tacit assumptions and bringing to light tensions and micro-exclusions in routines, as well as asymmetries that are often naturalised in the school context. Consistent with action research, knowledge is conceived as the outcome of reflective action: action serves as an epistemic device for testing interpretations and producing theory as practices are renegotiated. The design proceeds in recursive cycles of reflection–action–reflection, in which transformation is part of the process and not just a final outcome (Kemmis & McTaggart, 1988). The initial phase involves ethnographic observations in the classroom on language education practices and, in parallel, semi-structured interviews with teachers. The evidence is brought together in focus groups with teachers, as spaces for problematization and co-design. In subsequent cycles, micro-experiments co-designed from a TrUDL (Translanguaging Universal Design for Learning) perspective (Cioè-Peña, 2022) are activated and incorporated into action research cycles (observation → co-analysis → co-design → enactment → documentation → reflection and relaunch), in which transformation is part of the knowledge process. In each cycle, routines are made observable, modified in a limited way, and reinterpreted in terms of their effects on participation and categorization logic. TrUDL is adopted to overcome the separation between “language needs” and “special educational needs” by integrating teachers' multilingual and multimodal strategies (multiple means of representation), flexible student practices (action and expression), and culturally responsive practices to support engagement and belonging (Cioè-Peña, 2022). In terms of DisCrit, these micro-experiments also question forms of monolingual ‘control’ and support a stance of presumption of competence, countering deficient readings and pathologisation of repertoires (Migliarini & Stinson, 2021). In this perspective, enactment does not serve to validate a neutral package, but to produce data and reflexivity to expand, cycle after cycle, concrete spaces for participation and inclusion. Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings This project is expected to show that language education in primary school is a key institutional site where “ability,” “language competence,” and “belonging” are produced and negotiated. Its intent is explicitly transformative: through recursive action-research cycles, the study aims to make visible the tacit raciolinguistic and ableist assumptions embedded in routines, assessments, and documentation that can compartmentalise bilingual and plurilingual pupils labelled as disabled across parallel support systems. The expected outcomes are context-grounded rather than statistically generalisable; nevertheless, the study is designed to be replicable through transparent documentation of cycles, decisions, and analytic procedures, enabling transfer of insights across comparable settings. By co-designing and enacting TrUDL micro-experiments, teachers and families will test alternative participation structures, challenge monolingual norms and deficit logics, and document how shifts in representation, expression, and engagement reshape who can participate and on what terms. The project’s contribution is twofold: empirically, a fine-grained account of how exclusion is produced in everyday schooling at the intersection of language, race, and disability; practically, the identification of promising practices and reflective tools for intersectional inclusion, offering actionable, context-sensitive pathways for schools seeking more coherent and justice-oriented language education.
