32. Organisational Education
Poster Media Discourse on Education of National Minorities in Lithuania and Its Links to Student Achievement 1: Mykolas Romeris university, Lithuania; 2: Lodz university, Poland Presenting Author:This study examines media discourse on the education of national minorities in Lithuania during the period 2021–2025 and its links to student achievement and institutional decision-making in the field of education. The study is based on the assumption that public narratives surrounding minority education may influence not only public opinion but also organisational and political decisions within the education system. Particular attention is devoted to potential discrepancies between publicly articulated educational problems, empirical indicators of student achievement, and institutional responses to these issues, conceptualised as knowing–doing gaps. The study seeks to contribute to discussions in the field of organisational education by examining how media-generated public narratives may shape institutional legitimacy, educational decision-making, and the relationship between empirical knowledge and organisational practice in educational governance. The analysis focuses on how representations of educational problems constructed in public discourse may be associated with organisational responses, policy enactment, and power dynamics within the education system. The study addresses the following research questions: In this study, organisational decisions are understood as legislative, administrative, and education policy interventions related to language of instruction, school network restructuring, examination arrangements, and other regulatory measures affecting minority education. A longitudinal analytical approach is applied to identify possible temporal associations between shifts in media discourse, institutional responses, and trends in student achievement, without assuming direct causal relationships. Preliminary findings allow for the identification of thematic directions related to language of instruction, the organisation of education, and representations of institutional change in media discourse. Final conclusions regarding the role of media discourse in shaping perceptions of minority education and possible mechanisms of disinformation will be formulated upon completion of the full empirical analysis. Methodology, Methods, Research Instruments or Sources Used The study adopts a mixed-methods research design combining quantitative and qualitative media content analysis with the analysis of official student achievement data and education policy documents. Media data are collected from national and online news outlets and analysed to identify recurring themes, framing patterns, and changes in discourse over time. These findings are examined alongside indicators from national and international student achievement assessments, as well as key institutional decisions related to minority education. Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings Preliminary analysis allows for the identification of thematic directions related to the language of instruction, the organisation of education, and discussions of institutional change. Final conclusions will focus on the role of media discourse in the public justification of decisions and on the relationships between discourse, institutional action, and educational outcomes, following the completion of the full empirical analysis. The findings contribute to research in organisational education and education policy by providing an empirically grounded perspective on the relationships between public discourse, institutional legitimacy, organisational decision-making, and educational outcomes in the context of national minority education in Lithuania.
