Research Workshop 30th Anniversary VETNET Research Workshop: What has been the core of VET Research? Learnings from the Past 1: Bern University of Teacher Education, Switzerland; 2: Victoria University, Australia; 3: University College London, UCL, United Kingdom; 4: University of Bremen, Germany; 5: University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland Presenting Author:It is the 30th anniversary of VETNET as network 02 at the ECER. Two research workshops are dedicated to this circumstance; one is looking back, one forward. In this first workshop, we use VETNET publications from the last 30 years to reflect on emerging, lasting and disappearing themes, methods and impacts. What made VETNET one of the largest networks at the ECER some years ago? Which topics coined it? And how does this relate to research at the boundary of learning and work (Gessler et al., 2021)? How did political agendas affect the research contents reflected in the VETNET contributions? How did research methods evolve? For our discussion, we use publications from the first Proceedings from the ECER in 1998 in Ljubljana, edited by Martin Mulder, and the Proceedings of the ECER 1999 in Lahti, edited by Johanna Lasonen, Sabine Manning, Martin Mulder and Jan Streumer. These are to our knowledge the first papers published based on presentations at the ECER. Additionally, we rely on the collection of papers and presentations by Sabine Manning, and the series Trends in Vocational Education and Training, starting in 2018, initiated by Christof Nägele and Barbara E. Stalder. Moreover, we use data from a database with all abstracts from ECER since 1998 to extract topics and methods that were brought into and discussed within the network. The database is a project run by the EERA and ECER network 12, Open Research in Education. Conclusions, Expected Outcomes or Findings Based on this available data, we will extract and discuss exemplary papers and developments in VETNET. Besides of looking back in history and to indulge in nostalgia, we aim to discuss the significance of these contributions for VETNET and VET research from today’s perspective. Doing so, we want to learn which topics and methods could be of interest in the future. References Gessler, M., Nägele, C., & Stalder, B. E. (2021).
