FOR-413U: The Future of Deepwater Archaeology: Emerging Technology and Innovations
| ||
| Session Abstract | ||
|
Deepwater archaeology poses both significant opportunities and challenges. (For this panel, deepwater is defined as greater than 100 m). Recent technological advances have allowed scientists easier access to the deep sea, and present numerous possibilities for furthering the field of underwater archaeology. This panel will discuss the future direction of deepwater archaeology, identify emerging tools, technology, and innovative methods for practicing archaeology in deepwater, and discuss current use cases and future research interests of the panelists. The panel will also aim to identify existing deepwater industry technologies not widely used by archaeologists and discuss how these methods and tools can be applied in future research, as well as the possible barriers that may prevent archaeologists from accessing new deepwater technology. | ||
