In the decade since emerging from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, Detroit has seen billions of private and public dollars poured into affordable housing redevelopment projects, triggering a surge in archaeological reviews conducted under the National Historic Preservation Act. Over the last decade, the unique challenges of doing archaeology in Detroit have inspired a range of creative approaches to everything from field methodology to artifact curation. This moderated discussion panel brings together archaeologists from the State Historic Preservation Office and Section 106 archeaological consultants who have recently directed fieldwork projects in Detroit. Topics will include research designs, excavation methods, challenges and opportunities, and directions for the future. | ||
