In the 1980s, a working group of urban archaeologists organized within the Society for Historical Archaeology to survey the state of the field, compile enabling legislation and program information, highlight important research emerging from cities, and discuss the challenges posed by working in this environment. The practice of archaeology in densely populated and dynamic urban environments continues to require collective energy. This roundtable is intended to be a reflection upon the challenges, goals, and themes of and in urban archaeology as it stands in 2025 with the intent of building an Urban Archaeology Working Group in the spirit of this previous collective, geared towards collaborating on issues- both in theory and praxis- faced in cities today. Researchers invested in these questions working both in the U.S. and abroad are encouraged to attend for open discussion. Luncheon choices (select one):
