MCI-WS07: MCI-WS07 - UUX (+ X) in der Praxis: Bedürfnisse und Werte für Unternehmen nutzbar machen Location: S1|03 / 100 Chair: Anne Elisabeth Krueger Chair: Stefan Brandenburg Chair: Moritz Langner The interactive workshop UUX(+X) in practice is a continuation of the successful series UUX in practice. It aims to raise awareness of the relevance of needs and values in the corporate context. In this sense, the perspective of usability (U) on effective and efficient use and user experience (UX) with its focus on meeting users' psychological needs will be extended to include the perspective on the needs and values of employees of companies (+X). |
MCI-WS11: MCI-WS11 - Virtuelle und Augmentierte Realität für Partizipation und Teilhabe Location: S1|03 / 209 Chair: Fiona Draxler Chair: Jochen Feitsch Virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) are now essential technologies in many areas of society. VR and AR enable digital participation in the context of social, cultural and economic projects. In particular, a wide variety of future, past or simulated scenarios can be interactively designed and immersively visualized, for example to promote citizen participation or to bring cultural and historical heritage to life. Challenges to which special attention should be paid are the interaction in multi-user scenarios as well as the inclusive design. The workshop will provide a forum for exchange on the use of VR/AR-based technologies in the field of digital society from research, development and application perspectives. It will be designed as a classical scientific workshop with short presentations, discussions and prototype demonstrations. |

9:00am - 4:30pm |
MCI-WS09: MCI-WS09 - Accessible Automated Automotive Workshop Series (A3WS): Focus External Human-Machine Interfaces (eHMIs) Location: S1|03 / 015 Chair: Mathias Haimerl Chair: Mark Colley Chair: Andreas Löcken Chair: Andreas Riener With modernizing traffic, a rise in automated vehicles (AVs) is expected. As AVs potentially need to communicate their intentions, external human-machine interfaces (eHMIs) are an appropriate solution.
While automotive research progresses quickly, people with special needs (PSN) are vastly underrepresented. With an aging population due to demographic changes and advances in medical treatments and with the stride towards equality and accessibility, the needs of these groups also have to be considered in the automotive domain.
We provide an inclusive platform for interdisciplinary exchange on current and future topics, especially for academia, industry, and politics. This enables different perspectives with particular (but not exclusive) regard to user experience (UX) and psychology, product design, and legislative concerns. Thus, it supports the communication and potentially founding of new topic streams. The aim is to create new interdisciplinary networks and collaborations to make... |

MCI-WS13: MCI-WS13 - User Experience and Social Interaction with Robots Location: S1|03 / 125 Chair: Jonna Häkkilä Chair: Kaisa Väänänen Robots for an emerging area in human-computer interaction. Although different types of robots have been around for automation and maintenance tasks, they are now emerging more and more towards use cases with social interaction, bringing new opportunities and challenges for the designers. Robots are being integrated into different work and service domains, including office work, healthcare and education. When designing interactive technologies, we need to take into account different user groups, use contexts, and even cultural sensitivities to achieve good user experiences. With robots, also tangible interaction, the form factor, and physical appearance are part of the interactive system design. This workshop addresses interaction with robots, focusing especially on the user experience and social interaction side of it. The workshop invites researchers and practitioners to present their work, or position papers, on the topic and to discuss about related case studies, applications... |

Workshop Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion in sicherheitskritischen Systemen Location: S1|03 / 110 Chair: Tilo Mentler Chair: Christian Reuter This workshop will focus on the interaction of humans and technology in safety-critical contexts. This includes areas that have been the research subject for decades (e.g., process control in control rooms) and current challenges (e.g., social media in disaster control). In these and many other areas, safe system states can only be guaranteed or restored as quickly as possible by taking a holistic view of people, technology, and organization. In this context, the workshop is also dedicated to the usability and acceptance of security concepts and a more conscious engagement of users with this topic. |

11:00am - 6:00pm |
MCI-WS03: MCI-WS03 - 8. Workshop Innovative Computerbasierte Musikinterfaces (ICMI) Location: S1|03 / 161 The research area of innovative computer-based music interfaces now covers various topics, amplified by the increase in miniaturization and simplified integration of sensors and actuators. These topics include novel musical instruments, interactive and partly cooperative multitouch applications, 3-D sound, audio-video installations, and performances. A wide range of possibilities can be found in concrete application areas and in pure artistic expression. In the ICMI Workshop 2022, we would like to look at the whole field of "Musical Interaction" and address the most diverse target groups in this exciting area. In the regularity of our workshops, we would like to offer a forum to present and discuss new approaches and research projects on Music Interaction. |

In addition to the four accepted peer-reviewed papers, the workshop will feature two exciting keynotes. Please find the complete program on the workshop website. |
MCI-WS14: MCI-WS14 - Inclusive Security by Design Location: S1|03 / 312 Chair: Pascal Knierim Chair: Sebastian Feger With the digital transformation touching all aspects of people’s lives, digital security practices and shortcomings increasingly affect the physical world, with substantial consequences for human quality of life. The way digital security is currently designed is a significant barrier for many users. It creates negative user experiences and makes many people dependent on others to participate in the digital world safely. Understanding, controlling, and acting on digital security aspects is key to a self-determined life. Collaborative research is required to address this important challenge that could bring the digital transformation to a halt. This workshop aims to bring together researchers from the human-computer-interaction and security communities to build an understanding of technical and social requirements for inclusive security. http://isd.usec-muc.de/ |

MCI-TUT03: MCI-TUT03: Designing Interactive Avatars for Mixed Reality Applications Location: S1|03 / 11 Mixed Reality (MR) increasingly gained importance over the last decade leading to the commercial breakthrough in recent years. At the heart of MR systems is the avatar—the user’s virtual representation within the virtual world. Avatars are not only necessary to interact with the virtual world but have also a large number of profound effects on the interaction as well as on the user. Muscular avatars can, for example, not only make users feel stronger but also increase their physical performance. Designing avatars that do not fall into the uncanny valley is, however, challenging. In this tutorial we will therefore introduce attendees to the basics of avatars and their effects. We will provide guidelines for the avatar design. In addition, we will walk attendees through the practical task of designing avatars and putting them into interactive applications. |
