Session Abstract

Despite the recognition of the sustainable design potential benefits, its application has not reached companies worldwide over the last decades mainly due to difficulties in the integration of LCM into the innovation processes. The lack of a systematization of existing practices; and the intense development of new methods and tools in detriment to the study and improvement of existing ones and their integration into the innovation process are some of the issues contributing to this scenario. In order to support companies in dealing with those challenges and provide academy with a structured classification of sustainable design best practices, this workshop will explore a set of best practices for integrating LCM into the innovation processes. We will focus in supporting companies in the selection of the most suitable ones according to their specific needs and characteristics, based on a systematic classification of the existing tools. In this workshop, we are going to 1) present a body of knowledge of best practices for Sustainable Design that has been successfully applied by large manufacturing companies to support an effective transition towards circular economy and 2) have a call for abstracts for innovative approaches and tools being applied by industry to integrate LCM into the innovation processes.
