09-01: Redistributive land reform in the 21st century
Time:
Thursday, 28/Mar/2019:
8:30am - 10:00am
Session Chair: Michael Taylor, International Land Coalition, Italy
Location:Preston Auditorium
Session Abstract
Although the redistributive agrarian reform hype had lost some of its prominence since the 1980-90s, it is presently escalating again on the political and policy agenda of numerous countries in a context of increasing land concentration, rising inequalities and growing pressures on land. The objective of this policy roundtable is two-fold. On one hand, it offers to learn from and discuss the successes and challenges with regards redistributive agrarian reform based on experiences of concrete country cases effectively engaged – at least at a political level - in redistributive agrarian reform (Indonesia, South Africa and Colombia). On the other hand, it will promote an open discussion and encourage collaborative efforts between a broad panel of stakeholders, by gathering civil society, government, private sector and development partners of these three countries.
