Zusammenfassung der Sitzung

In recent years we’ve seen an increasing global interest in making computing education a core part of schooling. Stimulated by this development, we’ve seen an increased focus on computing education research relating to school education. But is this research having any impact on classroom practice? To what extent are computing lessons in school research-informed?

To understand how research can more effectively impact on actual teaching, we can use a framework known as knowledge mobilisation, defined by Cooper et al as ‘the process through which research and data become integrated (or fail to become integrated) into educational policies and practices.’ In this talk I’d like to explore the various ways that teachers and researchers can work together to facilitate knowledge mobilisation in the computing education context. I will use examples from our experience in England, where we’ve had mandatory computing education in the curriculum for children aged 5-16 since 2014.
