ABSTRACT
Indoor air pollution is a complex issue involving a number of different factors such as the interaction between indoor and outdoor air, emissions from buildings materials, and human activities. Therefore, improving indoor air quality to make our buildings healthier and more productive is an important issue. Thus, measures to reduce exposure to indoor air pollutants and potential adverse health effects generally fall into three main categories: source control, ventilation control, and removal control.
Portable air cleaners use different technologies to remove airborne particulates and gaseous pollutants. Particulate matter comprises small particles of solid or liquid droplets suspended in the air, such as airborne dust, pollen, viruses, and bacteria. Gaseous pollutants include volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and aldehydes. Portable air cleaners use several types of technologies to remove particulate matter and gaseous pollutants from the air.
This workshop presents a general overview of single treatment techniques and discusses if there is currently any technology that can be considered fully satisfactory for achieving more clean indoor air. Special attention will be paid to combined purification technologies.
