Information Action Briefs Workshop: Acting to Advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals
B. Mehra1, J. T. Du2
1University of Alabama, United States of America; 2Charles Sturt University, Australia
This 3-hour workshop will introduce the audience to an “Information Action Brief” (IAB) that is a tool (resource guide) to implement transformational actions using information to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will assist members of the information community to develop their own IABs related to their research/teaching/service/engagement areas of interest during small breakout group sessions. Participating individuals develop ten action items for one of the 17 SDGs connecting to their work from an information perspective. Session results will inspire members to act locally or globally, personally or collectively to integrate the SDGs in the context of participants’ information-related scholarship. During the interactive workshop, real-world actions will be discussed to develop a comprehensive picture of the role of information in shaping progressive change in the world. Implications will involve transforming the professions in an emerging information advocacy role for the remaining decade to achieve the SDGs.
