Virtual reality (VR) content creation, as a maker activity, involves individuals in creating an immersive environment to present multimedia information, fostering their information and digital literacy skills. In recent years, low tech-barrier approaches have democratized VR creation to novice users, attracting attention in schools, GLAMs, and community centers. Synergizing the interdisciplinary, theory-driven, and practice-oriented expertise of the organizers, this workshop aims to 1) promote “iMakeVR”, a low tech-barrier pedagogical approach and tools to VR maker activity, 2) discuss its applications in participants’ areas of expertise, and 3) formulate research and teaching agendas in the information field. This workshop will comprise an introduction to relevant key concepts and examples, sharing on related projects, a hands-on tutorial, and a group discussion. Expected outcomes include a collection of interdisciplinary research topics, proposed pedagogical applications, and plans for future research and community-based collaboration.
