The Axiomatic Shift in the Study of the Self: Thirty years of theoretical innovation Aalborg University, Denmark The present exposition is a step-by-step analysis of the axiomatic backgrounds of traditional personality theories (using the example of the “Big Five”) and DST. The move to DST has accomplished a major axiomatic shift that leads new ways of the study of the Self. It is shown how traditional personality analyses are in principle incapable of reflecting the dynamics of the human Self. In order to use the inductively derived five general parameters of the “Big Five” in the DST, an effort is made to map them into the set of elementary constituents of I-positions (“voices”). Thus the DST is a versatile theoretical framework that can emulate the highest abstracted features of the “Big Five” perspective in its lowest theoretically posited structural units of the DST. The use of each of the five parameters is predicated upon their change from a linear opposition continuum into a cyclical structure of unified opposites in accordance with the dialogical axiomatics of DST. | ||
