This symposium explores the role of social enterprises (SEs) within the Business and Society debate, focusing on how SEs influence corporations and multinationals to integrate social and environmental considerations into their operations. As businesses face increasing pressure to address grand societal challenges, SEs offer innovative models that balance profit with purpose, driving both economic value and societal impact. By bridging the gap between traditional for-profit businesses and nonprofits, SEs set a powerful example for how business success can align with the common good. At the micro level, SEs are motivated by a commitment to creating social and environmental value and redesigning traditional business models to embed societal goals into their core operations. At the meso level, SEs influence both corporations and multinationals through stakeholder-driven approaches, partnering with local corporations to drive community-focused initiatives, while encouraging multinationals to adopt long-term commitments to social responsibility. At the macro level, SEs foster collaboration within ecosystems, reshaping systems to create inclusive and sustainable solutions, particularly within Base of the Pyramid communities. By examining SEs’ contributions across these levels, this symposium will highlight how they amplify their impact on businesses and society, encouraging broader integration of social and environmental objectives.
