Under the guidance of a Business and Human Rights (BHR) expert and someone who has used collage-making in various research projects, this session brings together participants from diverse disciplines—business ethics, management, law, and politics—to engage in a collaborative, creative exploration of BHR. Participants will work in small groups to create a visual collage using images, on the topic of human rights in business. This activity will be followed by a reflective discussion on how participants experienced the process and what insights emerged from it.

The core aim of the session is to provide an experiential method for sensemaking and translating BHR, allowing participants to move beyond theoretical discussions and into an active, participatory process. Collage-making fosters collaboration, encouraging participants to negotiate meaning and engage in creative dialogue. This process can reveal how different perspectives on BHR—both personal and professional—shape how human rights principles are understood and implemented, especially at the micro-level within organizations.

This innovative session demonstrates the value of using creative, arts-based methods like collage-making not only for research but also for teaching and practice in BHR. By participating in this process, researchers will gain firsthand experience in using collage as a tool for exploring the micro-level processes of BHR implementation, sensemaking, and translation. They will also see how collage-making can be applied in educational settings and stakeholder engagement, providing a versatile methodology that can be adapted to various BHR-related contexts.
