Fitness Test Battery Software Platforms for Monitoring Physical Fitness Among Adolescents in Secondary Schools: A Scoping Review

Background Physical fitness (PF) is a key indicator of adolescent health. Increasingly, schools are adopting fitness test battery (FTB) software platforms to assess, monitor, and report student PF. However, no comprehensive review has mapped the global distribution, characteristics, and functionality of FTBs in schools.
Methods A scoping review was conducted using a six-stage methodological framework and reported in accordance with PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Four electronic databases alongside targeted grey literature were searched to identify FTB platforms used in secondary schools. Data were charted using structured frameworks and analysed using manifest content analysis to map platform characteristics and functionality.
Findings In total, 28 platforms were identified across 26 countries/regions, most located in Europe (n = 18, 64.3%) and Asia (n=7, 25%). Health-related PF components were universally included, whereas performance-related measures were less consistently assessed (n=21, 75%). Most platforms (n=24, 85.7%) operated under government or institutional provision. While all systems generated digital reports, the extent to which reporting extended to teachers, families, and policymakers varied.
Implications for School Health Policy, Practice, and Equity Findings reveal an uneven global distribution of FTB software platforms, highlighting inequalities and the need for coordinated international approaches to support equitable, evidence-based fitness monitoring in schools.
Conclusions This review provides the first global mapping of youth fitness monitoring platforms used in secondary school settings, providing a foundation for future research, policy development, and equitable implementation of adolescent fitness monitoring systems.
