Abstract: Digital twins have been in use by industry for quite some time to help to manage the operation and maintenance (O&M) of equipment in the field. A well-known example is the use of digital twins to mimic the operational conditions that jet engines undergo in order to model their performance, aging and characteristics to predict maintenance schedules. The term digital twin has expanded into new uses. This talk will speak of a new form of digital twin – the embedded digital twin. The embedded digital twin (EDT) will be described in the context of other forms of digital twins and its features and utilization explained. A case study of an implementation of an embedded digital twin will be described in the context of a solar PV string inverter.
