From Concept to Care: Advancing Surgery with Point of Care 3D Printing

Sharma, Neha

University Hospital Basel

This talk explores the transformative potential of point-of-care 3D printing in advancing surgical interventions. Point of care 3D printing enables the seamless transition from conceptualization to patient care, revolutionizing surgical practices. By leveraging this technology, surgeons can create patient-specific anatomicalmodels, surgical guides, and implants, resulting in enhanced preoperative planning, procedural accuracy, and postoperative outcomes. This presentation delves into theapplications and benefits of point-of-care 3D printing in various surgical modalities in craniomaxillofacial reconstructions. Moreover, it discusses the challenges and future prospects, highlighting the pivotal role of this technology in advancing surgical care and personalized medicine.

1:25pm - 1:50pm

Additive Manufacturing Applications in Dentistry from High Complexity Screw Manufacturing to Oral Health Workflows

Koelbing, Zoe

Straumann Group

This talk will introduce innovation perspectives of additive manufacturing in dentistry. Insights into successful applications and encountered challenges across different product types will be presented with their drivers from the perspective of a dental implant manufacturer, tooth replacement and orthodontic solution provider which, over six decades, grew from a Swiss family-owned institute focused on materials research into an international group of companies with a vision of making oral health a source of confidence globally. Examples of problems worth solving, potentially with an AM based solution, will then be explored, leading into a discussion how to address AM in an innovation framework focused on oral health needs.

1:50pm - 2:15pm

3D-printed Tablets: Challenges and Opportunities

Fanous, Marina

Novartis

Following clinical and technical background to FDM 3D-printing, Immediate Release 3D-printed formulations development for a hydrophilic model compound will be introduced. Development of 3D-printed tablets with a lipophilic model drug, including exploration of FDM 3D-printing as a unique tool to achieve amorphous solid dispersion at the point of care, IR tablets developments and identification of their critical morphological aspects for dissolution rate acceleration will be covered next. In addition, insights into Feasibility of 1-step Direct Powder Printing to simplify of FDM paradigm for tablets will be provided.
